Are you a U.S. school seeking information on Korea?

We exist to help you, as outlined in our mission statement. As a non-profit organization we offer completely free advice to Korean students on U.S. schools and to U.S. schools on exchange and recruitment opportunities within Korea.

We know your prospective students in Korea. As a bi-national, free, and unbiased source of information about US educational opportunities, Korean students come to us all the time. Although private recruiting agencies play a major role in the Korean market, students trust us over them. In fact, students often consult us simply to confirm information, if not exclusively. You will not find an educational organization in South Korea with greater credibility than Fulbright¡¯s U.S. Education Center.

We know the players and what's going on. Due to our history and unique position, we have personal and professional relationships with almost everybody who is involved with educational exchanges between Korea and the United States. This includes Universities (Korean and American), other schools in Korea, Study Fairs, and the Korea Overseas Study Association.

Take advantage of our services to help you. In addition to free consulting, we also offer a line of optional pay services to U.S. schools. All of our prices are based on cost-recovery figures. Many of them are proven techniques for getting the word out on one's school. If you are planning a trip to Seoul, schedule a visit to our offices. Or, if you are interested in free advice or some of our other services, direct your questions to webservices@fulbright.or.kr

Translation

Why use translated materials?

As with other products and services, the education market in South Korea demands localization (translation of essential information into Korean and adaptation of promoti0nal materials). On the internet, as well as in other media, Koreans demonstrate a strong preference for Korean-language material.

Localizing allows your audience to consider in their native language the finer details of what will be a very high stakes decision. Moreover, your target audience often includes prospective students' parents, who are less likely to know English, and more likely to control the financial factor and make the final decision.

How can we help?

Need materials translated for your school website? Want to put out a simple flyer in Korean? It can be difficult to find quick, professional translation for small jobs. We can help.

W e specialize in translation pertaining to education and educational exchanges. Our practices involve multiple stages and reviews, using a team of both native Korean and native English speakers, most of whom have formally studied in both Korea and the United States .

Can I see some examples of your translations?

Almost all of the Korean on this website, including all of the sections under our U.S. Study Guide, was completed by our professional translation team. Use the language toggle in the upper-right hand corner of this site to browse our Korean materials. Alternatively, contact us about other case studies if necessary.

How much does it cost?

Currently $0.35 per word for English-to-Korean translation.

Web Services

Why use the web?

South Korea is the most networked country in the world. The influence of the Internet within South Korea cannot be emphasized enough. Far ahead of the United States and even ahead of Japan , South Korea tops the charts in terms of both Internet access and usage. Of particular importance, Internet usage is nearly universal among secondary and university students, a target audience for U.S. schools.

Prospective students are using the Internet to start their study abroad search. Nowadays, students have usually already done a preliminary Internet search about the type of school they wish to attend, or even the specific schools they are looking to apply to. Increasingly often, students are asking us specific questions about specific schools.

To effectively communicate with prospective international students from Korea , and their parents it has become crucial to reach them via the Internet.

What are our web services? And how do they help?

We help schools develop a Korean web presence to meet this change. Our web services fulfill a growing need for U.S. schools to establish themselves online in Korea . Moreover, they are some of the most cost-effective marketing techniques available.

We host and maintain a database on U.S. schools, to which we continuously add data. Interfaced with a web-based skin, the database allows Korean prospective students a source to search for the right school for them. The database provides U.S. schools with an easy way to reach Korean schools via the web. Supply us with text and graphics on your school, and we will incorporate you into our database. We can translate your materials at cost (separate from the cost of web services) or you can have your English-to-Korean translation done elsewhere first. Your profile with the details of your school will be displayed online, completely in Korean.

Web Traffic Reports

Effective in 2008, our web services also include access to full Google Analytics web traffic reports.

Promotional Services

Once you establish a localized web presence through Fulbright¡¯s U.S. Education Center, you¡¯ll want to drive as much traffic to your pages as possible, with a focus on prospective students, their parents, their teachers or relatives. We offer several levels of promotional activity, starting with banners on our own web sites.

Who should consider a banner?

Banners bring more attention to one's website or profile pages . For that reason, many schools choose to use them in conjunction with our web services.

How does our banner system work?

We work hard to bring you the most for your money when it comes to banners. Our banners appear on various portions of our website, according to their category. Although your banner may not appear 100 percent of the time on a certain page, our banner system is optimized to bring the most quality attention to your banner in the most appropriate places. For example, when students read the sections of our 'U.S. Study Guide' that pertain to MBA programs, a specific section of the site is also devoted to banners of MBA programs. As for sections of the site devoted to liberal arts schools or study fairs, relevant banners appear respectively.

What are the guidelines for submitting a banner?

Due to space and aesthetic considerations, your banner must be a 160x60 pixel gif, animated gif, or jpg file. The file must also not exceed 50KB. For a fee, the we can create banners on your behalf that incorporate appropriate graphics, Korean-language tag lines or other elements.

Who should I contact?

Please e-mail webservices@fulbright.or.kr to sign up for a banner on this website.

How much does a banner cost?

$500 for one year.

Placement of Web, Newspaper and other Advertising in Korea

Our U.S. Education Center can act as your agent in placing advertising in other key Korean media outlets, including major web portals, study abroad agencies and search engines. We can also work on your behalf with Google Adwords, in Korean or English as appropriate. A major focus of our current collaboration with the Korea Overseas Study Association (KOSA) is joint promotion in the Korean market on behalf of U.S. schools and other educational organizations.

Please e-mail webservices@fulbright.or.kr to inquire about details of a broader web-based promotional effort. Costs will be based on the cost of the advertising itself plus staff time and overhead.

Buttons and Banners Linking to your Korean Pages

Upon publication of your web pages or site, we will provide you with several button/banner sizes and accompanying html code so that you can easily link to your Korean pages from your institution¡¯s own web page. We also encourage you to distribute this information to your Korean alumni for posting on their web sites or blogs.

Brochure Customization

Why Customize Brochures?

Based on our experience, if a school customizes its promotional materials for the Korean market, it shines in the eyes of students and parents. At study fairs, for example, we have seen, time and again, students and parents browsing numerous schools, all of which may be of interest but none of which are distinguishable. When they pass a school with Korean materials, however, their eyes sweep across the table and instantly track back to their native language.

Customized brochures let students and parents read about a high stakes decision in their native language. They are more comfortable with Korean materials. This is of particular importance to parents, who are less likely to read English and more likely to make the decisions. For many schools, this is exactly the edge that is needed to capture the attention of their audience and let them see the true benefits of their school.

Specialized Advising Services

What is specialized advising?

Imagine having a representative from your school permenantly in Korea . The representative would be here year-round to meet with prospective students, answer their questions, advise them on a course of action, or conduct preliminary interviews.

Through our advising center, some schools have this presence. Train our staff through telephone conferences and regular updates on your school, and we will conduct specialized advising appointments for your prospective students in Korea . Separate from our walk-in advising, these appointments will only be for prospective students who have a serious interest your school, and have signed up for an appointment beforehand via our web services or telephone.

How much does it cost?

For this service, we simply charge for our associated staff time ($30 per hour) in training and advising appointments.

Who should I contact?

E-mail us at webservices@fulbright.or.kr.

Snail Mail Services

Why Use Snail Mail Services?

If prepared correctly, an old-fashioned mailing can be an effective tool to spread the word about your school. After you establish a contact base in Korea , it is often still necessary to provide something physical, print materials or otherwise, for agencies and prospective students to take home and remember you by.

A postage mailing is a simple, clear-cut solution. It can be especially effective if coordinated with web services and/or presence at a study fair or school presentation.

How Can We Help?

Due to high international postage rates, a large-scale postal mailing from the States to Korea is often not viable for U.S. schools. We'll help you prepare the nitty-gritty details locally. Take advantage of domestic postage rates and cut your costs dramatically.

Supply us with a list of addresses and the contents to be mailed. We'll take care of the rest. Our brochure customization and translation services also offer great complements to most mailings.

How Much Does It Cost?

Since this service is rather labor intensive and priced on cost-recovery figures, it is only available to accredited U.S. schools. We'll simply charge for our staff time ($30 per hour) and the associated stationary and mailing expenses.

Domestic mailing costs here are usually slightly cheaper than in the States. To let you calculate a ballpark figure for your potential mailing, in our most recent mailing we shipped 158 envelopes, each containing 40 brochures, to domestic addresses all over South Korea . The total cost was approximately $434.62.

The following is a cost breakdown:

    • Postage for each envelope was W1,390 (appx. $1.39 * 158 = $219.62).
    • Stationary costs for the entire mailing was W35,000 (appx. $35.00).
    • The associated staff time was six hours (6 * $30 per hour = $180.00), which included preparing the brochures and form letters for each envelope, as well as mailing everything from the nearest post office.

The postage and stationary costs may fluctuate according to the current exchange rate.

Other Services Upon Request

What else can we do for you?

If you need any other services, we are very open to suggestions. We can be your staff in Korea to get things done locally. As long as it is financially sustainable (we're not out to make a profit, but we can't operate on negative costs) and is in line with our core philosophy, we'll strongly consider it. In fact, almost all of our existing services have originated from requests from U.S. schools.

Why will we consider other services?

As part of our mission statement, one of our primary goals is to help U.S. schools and prospective students in Korea connect.
